Frequently Asked Questions About BBL

Brazilian Butt Lift, known as BBL, is a plastic surgery procedure designed to augment or change the appearance of the buttocks.  This procedure provides a safe and simple way to enhance the curves of flat, shapeless, or disproportionate hips.  BBL surgery is performed under general anesthesia.  It takes about 2 to 3 hours to complete.  The fat cells removed from the suitable part of the body are used for reshaping procedures and the fat is inserted into the buttocks to create the desired shape.

Brazilian Butt Lift is a great option for those who want to have more defined hips.  Brazilian butt lift surgery does not only solve the problem of regional fat deposition but also provides anyone with the desired butt shape and size.  Some edema may occur immediately after the surgery.  Once the edema has recovered, the volume and appearance of the reshaped hips may reduce approximately 20%.  The biggest reason for this is that some of the injected fat cells fail to establish themselves.  Therefore, even though many patients state that they have larger hips than they expected right after the surgery, this is actually a measure taken to achieve the desired final result.  After fat cells that haven’t thrived are removed from the body, the hips achieve the desired appearance.   During this process, the patients are recommended to follow some instructions to preserve the amount of fat transferred.

 Here are the Most Frequently Asked Questions About BBL;

How long do the transferred fat cells last?
This period varies from person to person. If instructions are followed carefully after BBL surgery, 80% of the transferred fat cells will survive after the edema has recovered.

What can I do to help the transferred fat cells survive?
It is important to wear a surgical corset to increase the amount of live fat cells.  A balanced diet including healthy-fat foods is necessary.  It is also mandatory to use a BBL pillow for at least 3-4 weeks, especially while sitting. Avoiding cigarettes and tobacco products helps fat cells survive.

Will this surgery help me lose weight?
Plastic surgery, as the name suggests, aims to improve the aesthetic appearance of the individual.  None of the relevant procedures will help you lose weight, but they will help you maintain great contours.

Will I have any scarring?
Minor incisions that do not go too deep are made in the innermost and closed areas to leave no scars on the skin. Scarring after surgery is minimized with the scar-removal creams that we will prescribe to you.

Will the sutures need to be removed after the surgery?
All the sutures are normally placed under the skin and do not need to be removed after BBL surgery.

When can I go back to work?
This depends on what the patient’s job is.  After a smooth BBL surgery, you can go back to work a week later.  If you have an office job where you usually are in a sitting position, we recommend you use a BBL pillow for at least three weeks.

How long will it take to be able to exercise again?
You can take short walks under the supervision of a nurse immediately after the BBL surgery. Please continue taking short walks during the first week. You can start taking normal walks after this period of recovery.  In the sixth week, you can start brisk walking and swimming or exercising lightly.  You can do sports activities from the eighth week onwards depending on the approval of your surgeon.

When can I take a shower again?
Unless otherwise specified, you can take a shower 2 days after the surgery. After showering, you should wear your body compression garment again as soon as you are dry.

If I gain weight, will the removed fat come back?
The liposculpture performed during this procedure eliminates most of the regional fat cells in the area of surgery.  However, some fat cells will still remain there.  If you gain weight after the surgery, the remaining fat cells will swell.  In other words, the removed fat cells are completely eliminated. If you gain weight, the few remaining fat cells will expand.

Will my hips shrink if I lose weight?
If you lose a significant amount of weight after the BBL surgery, the fat cells transferred to your hips shrink just like the fat cells in the rest of your body.  This can also cause your hips to shrink; however, they will never look like they were before the surgery.
