Who Can Undergo Arm Lift Surgery?

Who Can Undergo Arm Lift Surgery?

Arms are negatively affected by gravity, weight loss, aging, external factors and genetic predisposition just like all other parts of the body.   All these negative effects cause sagging and excess skin on the arm.  Therefore, surgical procedures are recommended for adverse problems where non-surgical procedures are insufficient to lift the arms sufficiently.  This surgical operation that is known as arm lift surgery enables a tighter skin on the arm of the patient by adjusting the upper arm contour.

Who Can Undergo Arm Lift Surgery?

The person who will undergo arm lift surgery must first have sagging skin on the arms.  All male and female patients who have sagging skin problems on the arms and for whom soft tissue and excess skin cause aesthetic concerns can undergo this surgery.  In order to diagnose the sagging skin on the arms, arms are moved when they are in a straight position parallel to the ground to see if they swing from left to right and have a soft texture.

Since the arm lift surgery is performed under anesthesia, people who will undergo arm lift surgery should not have any obstacle to have anesthesia and their body conditions should be suitable for this surgery.

However, arm lift surgery is not recommended for pregnant women, nursing mothers and patients receiving medication as it is performed under general anesthesia.

Will I Have Any Scarring After Arm Lift Surgery?

There is a certain risk in this regard, as in any surgery.  The surgeon performing the surgery places the incisions in the areas where the sutures can be hidden and performs the surgery.  These areas are the lower part of the upper arm and the armpit fold.  If surgery is performed on the invisible area where the arm meets the body, a more aesthetic appearance is provided until the scars recover.

Are the Results of Arm Lift Surgery Permanent?

Arm lift surgery provides permanent results. This is because the excess skin and tissue are removed from the arms.  If needed, liposuction is also carried out.  Due to external factors such as aging and gravity, the skin on the arms may sag to a certain degree later on.  However, the degree of this sagging never becomes disturbing like it was before the surgery.

 Before the Arm Lift Surgery

The rules that apply before the arm lift surgery are the same as for all other surgical procedures.   The patient should stop smoking, drinking alcohol and taking blood thinners 2 weeks before and after the arm lift procedure.

 After the Arm Lift Surgery

After the arm lift operation, there is no harm in taking a shower two days after the operation. The arms should be kept above the heart level, especially during the first week. To this end, soft pillows can be used to support the patient in their bed.  Arms should not be moved too much, heavy lifting and intense exercise programs should be avoided.  Even if the patient can meet their daily needs alone, activities such as cleaning the house should not be done, and pain relievers recommended by a doctor should be used if necessary.  Doctor checks should not be neglected during the period of recovery.

How Long Does the Arm Lift Surgery Recovery Process Take?

The recovery process after the arm lift surgery varies from person to person.  This period can be short or long.   It is possible to see mild swelling and bruising in the area of surgery. The swelling and bruises recover spontaneously in a short time.  Although the area of surgery is narrow, it may take 1 to 2 months for the healing process and recovery of the scars as it is a surgical procedure after all.  Intense and physically demanding activities should be avoided during this period.  The patient should protect the arm area against possible impacts.  They should avoid making sudden movements.   If any unexpected situation occurs, they should consult their doctor without wasting time.
